Magento Testament #2 Review

Greg Pak's writing really shines in this issue. There are poignant moment aplenty throughout the whole issue. Max is exposed to evil though previously unimaginable as his family faces thier countrymen's increased anti-Semitism and are finally forced to flee to Poland only to see the beginning of the German Blitzkrieg. When I read the first issue of this mini-series I thought the art didn't really suit the story but in this issue it was perfect. I am glad Pak knows when to let the art speaks for itself and some of Carmine Di Giandomenico and Matt Hollingsworth make great use of large panels with as little as 2 words to convey the emotion of the story. In particular, I thought the page with Max's love interest, the Gypsy girl Magda, is one of the best individal pages I have seen in a comic in a long time.

Should You Buy It?

Absolutely!! If you are not reading this book than what is wrong with you? No only is this one of the best comics on shelves right now but it is also one of the best stories about this disturbing time in our worlds history.

AHHHHHH I'm on the Internets

So I went to this midnight signing for the Stand and Dark Tower: Treachery at Midtown Comics about a month ago. I got interviewed by some interns from Marvel.com so I've been checking the internet for the interview but low and behold this week when I'm placing my order for next week I find this picture. Yeah thats right. That stupid looking kid to the left of Peter David. Yours Truely.

Green Lantern Corps #29 Review

So I'm still catching up on Green Lantern Corps. This is the first issue I've read since mid-way through the Sinestro Corps War and I don't have a very firm grasp on whats been going on lately but apparently they are introducing all sorts of new colors of Lantern Corps. In this issue we get to see one of the new Sapphire Lanterns get selected and Guy Gardner getting lovely dove and then fight with his girlfriend Ice. I'm not really familiar with her... okay I'm going to be saying that a lot when I talk about DC comics...but anyways.

So this issue was fairly lacking in action. Its billed a prelude to the Darkest Night event so it's kinda impossible that it wouldn't be a story issue. The love story of the new Sapphire Lantern was EXTREMELY corny. If these Lanterns power rings are supposed to be powered by great love than how about a moderately convincing lovestory rather than something that seemed thrown together at the last minute. The art really didn't lend itself to this part of the issue. The alien couple seemed cartoonier than they needed to be. I mean this style works in the rest of the issue but not there. As for Guy's date with Ice I can't really comment as I don't really know any of the back story but some parts of it seemed pretty random.

Should You Buy It?

I guess if you are a completeist like me or if you really like Green Lantern but if you are only going to buy 5 comics this week there are definitely better ones than this.

Wed 10.8.08 Comic Releases and First Post

Hi,

I'm pretty new to blogging so here's my first in what I hope will be a long series of weekly posts about comics, general nerdom and my life in NYC.

This week had a ton of releases. I'm nearly broke from all the issues I bought. Unfortunately for me most of them were series for which I still need to buy TONS of back issues, and seeing as I like to read comics in order I couldn't bring myself to read most of them. I'm just trying to keep up with the current issues while I slowly work my way through buying all the rest of them.
